A Camaro Hybrid?
Honda started it with the Insight, Toyota popularized it with the Prius, Ford came up with a bigger version of this and General Motors is coming up with an even bigger hybrid vehicle. All these automakers including Nissan are developing and have developed already hybrid versions of their existing nameplate.
For Honda, there’s the Civic Hybrid, and the Accord Hybrid although the latter was dropped just this year. For Nissan, the Altima was given a hybrid version compliment of Toyota. Toyota has the Camry Hybrid, the Highlander Hybrid and a Lexus nameplate hybrid. Ford has the Escape; the Mariner also has a hybrid version. For General Motors, there’s the Saturn Vue Green Line, the Aura Green Linen and soon to come are the Yukon and Tahoe Hybrids. It will not come as a surprise if General Motors’ Chevrolet will come up with a two-mode pickup hybrid complete with a pickup handle relocation kit.
But what I bet you’re looking forward to is a Camaro Hybrid. No, General Motors is not making plans to create a hybrid version of the iconic car which has crossed to new-age popularity thanks to the film Transformers. But General Motors has the resources and the means to snap a two-mode hybrid system into one of those new-generation Camaro.
According to Joe Phillippi, the principal of AutoTrends Consulting, “The Camaro is Chevrolet and GM’s halo car. It projects an image that reflects on the whole corporation. To offer all the performance aspects of a classic Camaro and still be environmentally friendly… that’s a real plus from an image point of view. A hybrid Camaro, it could go a long way toward changing the perception of General Motors and Chevrolet.”
I for one would surely love a hybrid Camaro. Why? Because it would be the ultimate car for me. I’ve always loved the Camaro but with its large engine and an even larger appetite for petroleum fuel, it would really never be easy owning and maintaining one. But with a hybrid Camaro, the carbon footprint that one will leave will be significantly cleaner than previous Camaros. But will it ever become a reality? I think there is a chance that General Motors will come up with a hybrid Camaro, after all, even Cadillac is considering an all-hybrid lineup. I also think that it would be better if the Camaro will come a plug-in hybrid just like the upcoming Volt.

I’m sure that eventually all care manufactures will remake their past and present popular models in a hybrid. Or at least I hope so! The body style and airodynamicks of the camaro body style would be a great road car and with less fuel and maint. costs would be a winner!
The new thing they are calling a Camaro is the ugliest thing GM ever did,Except maybe the Impala, Maybe they will make an Aveo SS soon. Cant the engineers come up with anything new? They still havent ruined the chevelle yet. Maybe a four door corvette Hybrid for next year. I cant wait for their next abomination. LEAVE THE MUSCLE CARS ALONE
Why don’t the hell of you, the couple of idiots who seems not to be able to say anything nice without cursing, stay the hell off the internet especially because there may be children on line who are interested in CAMARO’s past and present. Maybe they want to learn something and have to listen to your foul mouths. I remember my parents always telling me,”If you can’t something nice, then don’t, I repeat Don’t say anything at all.
What consumers are demanding is a genuine retro camaro, with performance…. NOT a golf cart with a camaro body on it…. If you want that…. buy a ford pinto.
the chevelle name wa ruined with the chevy malibu horrible. the new camaro looks like a mutt, a mix between the new dodge charger in the butt and a smiling camaro grill in the front the window lines even make it look weak. this mock mutt camaro will be the ruine of the camaro as we know it but hey the only good side is that its uglyness may raise the value of first gen camaros like the cherry 67 sitting in my fatherinlaws garage yea!
love camaros all my life had one in highschool as my first car even made use of the little 89’s back seat. dam them for turning this car in to a sissy mobile the hybrid part i like but the body has got to go i hate fords but have respect for the new models because they actualy look like the classic and mean too.

I own a 68 ss and an 02 ss camaro there is no substitute for the thunder that it produces and the looks of admiration, But a Hybrid? Who’s kidding Who.. GM should leave it alone these types of sports cars are in there own class….THE CLASS OF KICK ASS!…..

I own an 81′ camaro and couldnt believe the idea of a camaro hybrid less. that has to be the dumbest idea yet. If i wanted something like that i would go by one of those crappy Camry hybrids. Leave one of the only good cars left in GM has alone.

CAMAROS ARE MADE TO GO FAST AND ITS A SPORTS CAR. CAMAROS ARE MUSCLE CARS AND MY OPIONIN IS THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY THERE GOING TO COME OUT WITH A HYBRID CAMARO.

i luv a camaro… but i cant afford this price of gas for that giant v8 engine… it will equal the car payment monthly maybe even more!
