A Greener Oscars

gren car at the Oscars

The Oscars goes environment-friendly. This Sunday, celebrities would want to express their love to nature and they are driving their way to the Oscars’ red carpet using their very own eco-friendly vehicles. Each celebrity will be choosing one of the 30 cars prepared by the group Global Green USA.

Stars like Leonardo Di Caprio, Justin Timberlake, Matt Damon and the others will have a chance to select among the line up of real friendly vehicles including the sexy and gorgeous electric Tesla Roadster. The new may not have the usual share of fuel parts as it uses electricity to propel forward.

Actors like Di Caprio will have the chance to ride on these eco–friendly cars to the Academy Awards which will be giving out their recognition this February 25.

The green limousine campaign started five years ago with the purpose of making millions and millions of people worldwide aware that there are a couple of fuel alternative cars choices, energy independence and solutions to global warming. The plan started today at the upcoming Oscar Awards.

Matt Petersen, the chief executive of Global Green USA, said, "The past years we only worked with the hybrid cars and this year we really wanted to promote alternative fuels and different technologies that represent what's next".

To start off, Steve Schneider showed his tiny $10,000 ZAP (Zero Air Pollution) car which was made in California last Wednesday at the Global Green USA celebrity party.

But the Oscars will be revealing the iconic two-seat, scarlet-colored prototype of the Tesla Roadster which was made in Silicon Valley. Heads would surely be turning to look at who will be the one to pull up to the red carpet riding in this vehicle.

There are almost 330 celebrities including ex-Batman actor George Clooney, who already signed up to get electric car that goes from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 100 kph) in four seconds. The price will be $92,000 although they are working on a four door car which will go out between $50,000 and $65,000.

There are no news released on who will be the stars to ride the stunning Tesla.

MotorWeek’s Eco-Friendly Car Award Given To Toyota Motors

We all knew that the 2006 Eco-Friendly Car was given to the Toyota Highlander Hybrid. Now, as part of the 2007 Drivers' Choice Awards conducted by MotorWeek, the Toyota Motors Corp. received the award once more as the manufacturer of the 2007 Eco-Friendly Car.
Toyota Highlander Hybrid

Just like the recently announced Green Car of 2007, Toyota comes next to Honda Fit. And two Toyota brands were both on the list namely the Prius on the second spot and Yaris on the fifth spot.

Honda Fit receives two big awards this 2007 - Best Car of the Year and Best Small Car. Other winners include:
Best Car of the Year:   Honda Fit
Best Small Car:   Honda Fit
Best Family Sedan:   Saturn Aura
Best Minivan:   Hyundai Entourage, Kia Sedona
Best Convertible:   Volkswagen Eos
Best Luxury Sedan:   Lexus LS
Best Sport Sedan:   Infiniti G35
Best Performance Car:   Ford Shelby GT500
Best Small Utility:   Honda CR-V
Best Large Utility:   Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon
Best Crossover Utility:   GMC Acadia, Saturn Outlook
Best Pickup Truck:   Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra
Best Dream Machine:   Jaguar XKR, Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, Porsche

Toyota, as we all know, was the first one to start making hybrid cars. But because of the present fuel demands, Toyota is now opting to produce new diesel engines mixed with biofuel so that driving your car may not be that expensive but not that hazardous to the environment as well.

More kudos for Toyota. By the way, catalytic converters really help in the preservation of our environment. It reduces the toxicity of emissions thus lessening air pollution. So, if ever you need car parts like Eibach Springs, try to check car parts stores online.

Honda’s Greenest Car of 2007

Honda Civic GX

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy recently announced the Greenest Car of 2007 award. Honda's natural-gas-powered Civic GX was the lucky one to receive the award while the diesel-powered Volkswagen Touareg was not so honored so as to be named as the year's most "environmentally unfriendly" vehicle.

The second spot after the Honda Civic RX belonged to the Toyota Prius while the third spot was again taken by the Honda Civic Hybrid. On the fourth spot is the Nissan Altima Hybrid thus taking the Toyota Yaris to the fifth spot. Looks like the top five spots were all occupied by Japanese automakers. This is maybe because of the catalytic converter units found on each hybrid car. But now I’m asking: what happened to the domestic auto makers?

Well, it’s a bit bad of publicity for the European cars to be found at the very bottom of the list. The top meanest cars in the list include the Mercedes-Benz GL320 CDI, the Lamborghini Murciélago, the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the Bentley Arnage RL. Other vehicles like the Dodge Ram 2500 Mega Cab, the Ford F-250 and the Lincoln Navigator were also included on the mean list.

Toyota was the very first one to start the making hybrid cars which is why I guess the crown belongs to its fellow Japanese auto maker, Honda. For European cars, I guess they should go with the demand of producing eco-friendly cars.
